Great Britain is largely made up of limestone and chalk, around 60% of homes in England and Wales are supplied with hard water, the effects of limescale around the house can be hidden and obvious. You notice it more obviously in the bathroom or kitchen, with taps or shower enclosures losing their shine, leaking and difficult to clean. Washing machines and dishwashers also become effected, limescale builds up around the element and over time will eventually break down.
The less noticeable areas it effects are within your central heating system, it will run less efficiently, limescale may build up a thick layer inside pipework and boilers will be prone to breaking down. Most houses in hard water areas therefore treat water as it enters the house, luckily there are many ways you can do this in a cost effective method.
